Exporting & taking your data

“Your data, your control” isn’t just about where finzu stores things while you’re using it — it’s about what happens if you ever stop. Finzu gives you two ways to take everything with you:

  • CSV export — your transactions, per account and year, in a plain spreadsheet format that opens anywhere. Good for sharing a slice of your Ledger with an accountant, or pulling numbers into another tool.
  • Full database export — the same snapshot mechanism used for backups doubles as a complete export: every account, category, budget, and rule, not just the transactions.

Neither requires asking finzu for permission, filing a request, or waiting on anyone — the data was always on your device, so exporting it is just copying a file you already have.

Why this is a promise, not a feature

A local-first app that made exporting hard would be quietly reneging on its own premise. Finzu treats “you can always leave with everything you put in” as a constraint on the product, not an optional nicety — because a system of record you can’t get your own records out of was never trustworthy in the first place.

Next: moving to a new device, or starting fresh.
