Moving between devices / fresh starts
Because your Ledger is a single database living on your device, moving to a new one or starting over both come down to the same idea: it’s the file that matters, not the machine.
Getting a new device
Take a snapshot (or make sure sync is already keeping one current in your Drive), then restore that snapshot on the new device. Your accounts, categories, rules, budgets, and full transaction history come with it — nothing to re-import, nothing to re-categorize.
Starting fresh on purpose
Sometimes you genuinely want a clean slate rather than a copy. Since finzu never assumes it owns your only record — your bank still has every statement you originally imported — a fresh start just means beginning from an empty database and re-importing whatever history you actually want carried forward, rather than everything by default.
Either way, the same principle from earlier in these docs holds: the device finzu happens to be running on was never the source of truth. Your bank statements were, and your reconciled Ledger is finzu’s trustworthy record of them — which is exactly why it travels this easily.
